Latest update Hurricane Fernanda continues to strengthen Latest update :: Hurricane Fernanda continues to strengthen Hurricane Fernanda continued to strengthen as a Category 4 storm in the Eastern Pacific Friday. At 5 p.m., the center of Fernanda was located about 1,105 miles southwest of the southern tip of Baja California. Maximum sustained winds are at 145 mph. It is moving to the west at 12 mph. Fernanda is expected to turn west-northwest on Saturday and this motion is expected to continue on Sunday. Forecasters say some additional strengthening is possible Friday night. After that, little change in strength is expected through Sunday.
