JWA sees 1 percent decrease in passenger traffic A decline in international travelers through John Wayne Airport pushed down passenger traffic 1.2 percent in April. The airport served 851,169 passengers compared with 861,164 in April 2016. Airport spokeswoman Deanne Thompson attributed the decrease to reduced international services. Southwest eliminated flights to Mexico this year. JWA sees 1 percent decrease in passenger traffic The airport has seen sluggish traffic all year. Passengers counts were down 2.5 percent in March and 7.5 percent in February. In January the airport saw a 1.2 percent increase in passenger traffic.
